For a while I’ve been conflicted about whether or not to keep blogging: on the one hand, I no longer enjoy it and the original purpose of my blog (directing traffic to Deucescracked) is no longer particularly relevant as DC has blown up. On the other hand, I felt obligated to keep blogging because I know how much it means to all my readers to be able to know where I happen to be at any point in time or whether I’ve been having lunch with friends lately. But then I read this touching, brilliant piece by Sports Guy and it was like a sign. It’s time to walk away from the blogging game.
I’m going to law school in a month and once I’m there I don’t anticipate I’ll have too much interesting stuff to say, I’ll be too busy doing the typical law school routine. I’m also going to cash out my $ from Stars and FTP so I won’t be distracted from my studies, which means I won’t have too much value added as a blogger. All the trip reports, sick screenshots, and hand histories are a thing of the past, and I don’t want to just be blogging about what it’s like to be in law school.
My only real involvement with poker is I’m going to continue to coach and make videos for Deucescracked. It’s possible that my next deal with DC will involve some sort of blogging for their main site, in which case I’ll return to the blogosphere (and I guess I’ll bump this blog to announce any such return). But for now, I’m done. Thanks to all my readers, all my Google Reader sharers (mainly just Tom and Ilan I guess), and, to a lesser extent, all the people who commented on the Reader shares of my posts.

What are the odds you will drop out before you finish law school ?
You going to keep up the shares? They are awesome.

gl, man.
You are definitely one of the most interesting personalities in online poker.

Well, I forgot to enter my email address when I hit submit, so my rambling missive got deleted by fucking wordpress. Anyway, boiled down to its essentials:
1) I’m sad you’re quitting blogging, but I understand. Thanks for giving me stuff to read over the past year or two. And good luck at / enjoy HLS!
2) You’re likely overestimating how much time your law school studies will take up. Even if you’re an easily distracted reader (like me) you will find ample down time. 1L year isn’t nearly as stressful as people make it out to be, unless you have the highest of ambitions.
3) Even if you’re really ambitious (eg you’re aiming for a SCOTUS clerkship or something similarly difficult to attain), the law of diminishing marginal returns hits hard when it comes to studying for exams. Laugh as you get the same grades as someone who studied two hours per day more than you, while you use those two hours to make 6-figs online.
4) For those reasons, I’d advise against totally cashing out all your online poker money.

@ jordan: the shares will continue, although i imagine decrease in volume
@ Leo: I’m probably going to play, definitely going to keep money on sites that are very fishy but rarely run games (Cake, UB, etc) just because the $ is good and the lack of action is actually a good thing as it won’t lead me to wasting all my time.
@ Drew: maybe 15%
Ah, man. I always looked forward to foxwoodsfiend.com appearing in my Google Reader feeds list. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
Hopefully you still plan on keeping this site up and running, even though it will become rather static. I’m sure you see the benefits of this, such as funneling Google searches through here to DC.com, etc.
i just died a little on the inside
You’re a genius but you’ve got a lot to learn
Erm, it’s probably not v polite to say you only started a blog to get traffic to your site. A bit like asking for people’s goodwill in following you then shitting on them?
@Ariel: Have you thought about keeping the blog for therapeutic purposes? It’s good to have a place to rant, rave, and ramble about non-poker related stuff (for instance, your entry on rap music). I personally started a blog to keep track of interesting poker hands and it has now somehow turned into a platform for B-Movie film criticism.
@Trevor: How is it like shitting on them? I don’t see what promise he failed to deliver on. He wrote about interesting hands, life, travel, et cetera — basically everything you would be interested in reading about from a player who has won at nosebleeds — and now he’s moving on. If DC actually offered a really poor service and people were duped into joining via this blog, then I would understand your disdain. I don’t see how you have been misled.
Your blog were one of the few that I read for just for my own enjoyment, and I’m really sad to see it go.
Good luck with law school.
P.S. Whatever you do, don’t let the domain or hosting expire.
Sad to see you shutting down the blog. I hope your next deal with deucescracled will involve some sort of blogging.
gl with law school
All the best to ya with lawschool, thanks for entertaining.
adieu
It’s a shame you’re shutting down the blog because it is one of the few I make sure I read as soon as you update.
Best of luck at Law School
Law school isn’t that hard even if you want to finish at the top of the class. Maybe you could reconsider blogging after settling in to law school?
TRUST THESE NIGGAZ: law school will be a joke for you even if you want to do a baller clerkship…
I still say quit poker for a while, though. You have more money than you’ll ever need and…I know you are baller at pokes, but…your intellectual efforts could nevertheless be directed to a more worthwhile enterprise (not saying pokes is not worthwhile but…)
Best of luck to you in school…. you’re a great teacher and I honestly don’t understand why you’d want to go into law (I tried it back when I was an undergrad, it was mind-numbingly idiotic… moved on to science and now I’m happy), but whatever makes you happy is what you gotta do.
I really hope you’ll make some more vids for DC, but if not I’ve always got the archives.
Some people are very selfish to criticise you for their own purposes.
Do what makes you happy and fulfilled.
I wish you luck and success.
enjoy being a student!
Keep blogging please.
You can to that and still go to school.
Best of luck with the studying.
