Some of you who have Dish Network and watch WPT, ESPN2, or Oxygen network may have come across an advertisement for this blog I wanted to see how long it would take until somebody saw the ad and posted about it on the forums, but now that there’ s a 2plus2 thread I figure I can blog about it.
My roommate works for Google in their ads division and he was telling me that you can make television ads and target them to only certain programs or certain stations and that you can get a ton of people to see your ad for relatively little money. So for $500 last week, 330,000 people saw my ad on their television set.

All of the pictures were pics I already had on facebook or photobucket and putting together the ad took about 20 minutes. A lot of people have been wondering what motivated me to do this. I just thought the ad was hysterical and that having it on t.v. was worth the $500 bucks. It’s half egomania and half dedication to comedy. I targeted poker programming on ESPN2 and whatever channel airs the WPT because I thought that’s my demographic. I targeted the Oxygen network because I thought it would be funny to do so and who knows, maybe some ladies out there will be impressed by the PT graph!
I think I might change the ad every week until I’m tired of spending money on this little joke, but for now the ad’s going to stay on as is.

Hey man, I was watching poker and saw this ad. I have recently started poker and I deposited $50 dollars. After one week I’m already up to $300. It’s really amazing how much you can make from internet poker. At this pace I will have made $13,000 after one year. This is really crazy especially since I’m only 14 hehe. Maybe I”ll even keep moving up and make as much as you did in that graph within one year. i just can’t believe how easy it is tto make money. I only learned the rules one month ago.

You should put some ftp/stars ads on your site and become an affiliate if you’re not already. Commercials would pay for themselves pretty quick.

I just saw the ad on friggin Sports Center. I love the concept. Kudos to you man. Sorry, I still hate poker though. But I enjoyed the ad!
I saw this during Sportscenter on ESPN this morning. Great job! Brilliant!
Maybe you should try monetizing all this new traffic to your site and turn the $500 into much more. After all, isn’t that what poker players do? What if the next version of your ad promoted a poker-techniques video which you sell for $39.95 a pop? Or, a more subtle technique would be to do a free poker advice newsletter and build your list. Then at some point you could launch a Poker Experts members-only site at $xx per month and sell it to your list.
The reason some people are pissed off that you were able to reach 330,000 viewers with $500 is that it usually takes them a lot more money and effort to generate that kind of visibility for their web sites.
BTW, I’d be curious to know what your site stats look like before and after the ad has been running. It might be fun to experiment a bit with different messages to see how they pull.
