Went to see an orthopedist today about my shoulder injury.  He says I have a torn labrum.  Following football as closely as I do, I realize I’m lucky I’m not a left-handed quarterback or my career would likely be over (Dree Brees notwithstanding).  I also realize that this is a pain in the ass that normally leads to surgery.  So that sucks.

I’m going to have to start doing physical therapy twice a week for at least a month and if my shoulder doesn’t get better then we’ll have to do surgery.  I also have to go back uptown tomorrow to get an MRI.

2 doctor’s appointments+constant physical therapy (and what I’m assuming means lots of at-home exercises as well)+follow up appointments+possible surgery=doing a ton of annoying things that I hate to do to fix a problem that is only mildly inconvenient.  It sucks because I obviously don’t want mild shoulder pain for the rest of my life, but in the short-term I’m going to be running around doing all sorts of tasks that will make me think the cure is worse than the disease.

I guess this also means I won’t be lifting much in the immediate future, so now if I want to get my daily gym activity in I’m going to have to do cardio.  Either that or feel like a lazy bum.  Uggghhhh….

1 month isn’t enough - you’ve got to do smth with your should every time, make it work even if it hurts. That’s the only way. My father couldn’t cope with a shoulder injury for like 6 months, then he really started pounding on it (regular exercises etc) - it got better in 2,5 months

had same thing, but to my right shoulder…im 23 and this happened in January of this year, Dr recommended same thing, physical therapy first to see if it got better, then if not surgery…i opted for surgery immediatly considering i’m still very active in sports (flag football, softball keg leagues, bball) and was definitley the best decision…pain was gone about 2 months after surgery…however i still am in the process of gaining throwing strength back in the shoulder seeing as how i never had the time to committ to a throwing program…good luck anyways
