I lost 50k the other day to fullflush at 25/50 HU. It was a combination of making no hands, playing aggressively, and doing that for many many hours. I’ve been trying to get the rematch in, but fullflush (a.k.a. the artist formerly known as mafews) is always busy playing some other regs since he’s still unknown so everybody who’s dying for 25/50 action is willing to play him. But I’ll get my chance to avenge the epic beatdown: I think he’s actually pretty good, but I don’t get much action these days so I’ll have to try taking him down.

I’m in San Francisco. I’ve been here a couple days now and it’s really nice here. I kind of want to move to the West Coast but I checked out Berkeley and didn’t really like the campus and I got rejected from Stanford today (the winning streak had to end eventually I guess) so I suppose I’ll be in the East Coast for the rest of my life now. I booked my flight to Argentina, so it’s official that I’ll be there from February 13th-March 12th, so if you’re one of the numerous students I’ve coached who is now in BA, let me know so I remember to holler when I get into town.

I also played some 500/1k the last few days and taken a really big piece. I lost 20k today, but I’m still up at 500/1k for the week since I won 80k or so the other day. I also played 300/600 vs faxxx, who managed to have the nuts every single hand. Fortunately I sucked out pretty brutally against his KK and QQ with AJs twice, so even though I never made a hand the rest of the session I managed to end up slight winner.

That’s about it: back to Austin tomorrow, but first I’m going to Gary Denko with flawless, neon, riverboatking, and DJ Sensei. Trip report (and, hopefully, “FoxwoodsFiend or (random food critic)?” guessing game material) to follow.

I left New York on Monday. My lease is up and I feel like doing some traveling, so I boxed up all of my stuff, shipped it to my parents’ place in Virginia, and left town. I have no idea how long I’ll be traveling or where I’ll be going, so it was kind of hard to figure out how to pack. I erred on the side of caution and bought two huge suitcases and filled them to the top. I flew out to Austin, Texas to visit flawless. I actually got pretty sick my first night in town, so I haven’t been taking full advantage of the 60-70 degree weather, but it’s still nice to be somewhere in which it’s possible to go outside without immediately worrying about getting back indoors.

I’ve mainly been reading and hanging out so far. I’ve tried playing some poker but I haven’t been able to get much action and somehow it’s not quite as appealing to sit around waiting for action when it’s nice and sunny out. My (quite tentative) travel plans are:
February 15-March 15: Buenos Aires, where I’ll be renting a house with a couple friends from Yale
Late March: Fly all across the States attending various law school admitted students seminars
April: Italy for EPT San Remo with Team Israel
May: ???
June: Vegas
July: Finish up in Vegas and then maybe spend a few weeks in New York

After that, I have no idea. I’m planning on deferring law school until 2010 because I’m just making too much money playing poker right now and I don’t really see the rush to go to law school; as long as I end up going, there’s no real difference between going in 2009 and 2010. Going through the application process was a decent commitment strategy because if I end up not going, I can’t imagine I’ll have the option to go to law school again in the immediate future (or at least my chances of getting into my preferred places would be diminished).

The problem is, of course, that Fall of 2010 is a year and a half away and I only have about 4 or 5 months of travel planned. I’ve been thinking of doing stuff like going to Brazil to learn jiu-jitsu, going to Israel to brush up on my Hebrew, and other types of trips with specific purposes. Hopefully I won’t be too limited by my shoulder to do stuff like that. I’m sure I’ll figure something out, and if I don’t then I’ll just fly back to the states and come back to New York. While I got bored of New York, I have to admit that the thought of drifting around without a permanent home and living out of a couple suitcases is somewhat daunting. As is, I’m glad to be traveling as it had been a running joke between my friends and me that I always make plans like these and don’t follow through so it’s good to finally follow through.
