3 in one day.  Record breaking.  Decided to not edit a past post, but to write a post to note that I’m flying out to Copenhagen later tonight.  I think I’m going to spend a couple days traveling Europe on my own (probably visiting friends in Cambridge) and then meet up with Krantz, whitelime, and flawless_victory in Copenhagen the 17th (we’re all getting a hotel room and spending a couple weeks there for the EPT, probably just grinding a ton of online with the occasional foray into juiced live games).  Might not be posting for a bit, but keep checking your google reader.

Won $9,158 in 2097 hands at 5/10 today.  I ran about 2k above expectation on my all-ins, but was still tilted because I kept losing to this guy, e1mdopp, who was playing 66/57/4.  I mean, this guy was ridiculously crazy.  Called every 3bet.  Called every 4bet.  3bet just about every hand.  I was literally just pair mining and looking to stack him with any piece, but I ran cold.  Then for a while every time I got it in vs him he won.  At one point he was up 7k on me with hands like this:

So by now hopefully you realize how awful this guy is, which is why I’m very frustrated he ended up winning $1775 of me.  Then again, I guess that’s what happens when you run $3800 above expectation at 5/10 NL on 34 all ins in only 244 hands(yep, we got it in about every 7 hands. fun times).

A couple more fun hands.  This one I decided to rep a mid pocket pair to get him to bluff, but the turn I was afraid gave him too many outs with Ax or some random low pair that turned a draw, so I just jammed.  Guess it looks bluffy.

I’m at 7A today, grabbing lunch at the bar and somehow I’m talking politics with the bartender.  He’s a reasonable enough guy, although obviously very liberal (as most East Village bartenders probably are), and I don’t particularly feel like talking politics with him because I think in general people just don’t have any interesting insight into politics (including myself). I also hate talking politics with fellow liberals because it’s normally just a bunch of bitching about Bush, people saying how much they love Obama, and reinforcing each other’s beliefs (Oh? you’re against torture?  Me too!  Wow, isn’t it so frustrating being right all the time?  I mean, come on!  O’Reilly?  Yeah, I hate him too!  What do you know!  Don’t even get me started on dynamic scoring!).

But this bartender said something by which I was actually intrigued.  He said that he likes Hillary, but he’s voting for Obama because he doesn’t want to extend the 20-year streak of having a Clinton or Bush in the White House.  Now this kind of surprises me, because I would imagine that this type of frustration is normally a proxy for something actually wrong about the candidate him/herself (as in, Hillary is too conniving and triangulating of a politician just like Bill, and I’m sick of it).  It seems weird to judge a political candidate based on his/her name.  I mean, if the candidate’s policies or personality (whichever you worry about more) is appealing, that should be all that matters right?  Maybe we have certain affinities for certain names and families (what liberal wouldn’t vote for a Kennedy amirite?), but to use a reaction to a name as your PRIMARY consideration in evaluating candidates just seems insane.

So just when I figure I’m being uncharitable and this guy has a specific beef with Hillary that is reflected by his comment about the desire for change, two things make me realize that he actually meant exactly what he said.  First of all, if he didn’t then he would say “I’m just so tired of the Clintons” or something like that.  Pointing out that it’s been a Bush/Clinton streak would seem like a non-sequitir: whether or not the presidents before and after Clinton were Bushes shouldn’t really have an impact on somebody’s attitude towards a Clinton unless the attitude is being influenced by a reaction to the lack of change in the last name of the President for the last 20 years.

Second, the maitre’d was hanging out and he goes “yeah, I totally agree. I was just saying to somebody: if we elect Hillary that could mean we end up having 28 straight years of Clintons and Bushes running the country.”  The two guys then talked about how lame that would be.

So yeah, I guess the long story short is that the conventional wisdom that a lot of people support Obama because they want a change from the Clinton years might actually have some truth to it.
